Vets, by law, can only authorise a repeat prescription to animals under their care. In common with most other veterinary and human medical practices, we can justify that your animal is under our care, and we have the right within law to prescribe drugs, as long as we have seen the animal within the preceding six months. You may be asked to bring your pet for a repeat prescription appointment if you need a prescription for ongoing medication, and it has been more than six months since we saw your pet. These appointments give us the opportunity to re assess your pet's condition, to re evaluate the suitability of the drug and dosage prescribed, to monitor for adverse effects of the medication, and check on the compatibility of other drugs the pet may be taking for other conditions. These appointments are charged at a discounted fee of £10. The cost of your ongoing medication, if supplied by us, will be added to this. Should you choose to source your medication from an alternative source, a written veterinary prescription is available upon request, and is charged at £10. These written prescriptions can, at the vet's discretion, be written to authorise repeat quantities to be supplied over a six month period.
We do ask that a minimum of 24 hours notice is given, when you order a repeat prescription, because a qualified vet needs to check the animals records and authorise the repeat supply.
